Everyone will be old enough to vote someday. To be politically aware at a younger age is the advantage because it is the only way to know what the government is planning to do will directly affect us.
The government needs to be kept in check, and a necessary component to keep it in check is by making sure people vote and they are informed correctly who to vote. We can improve our political awareness by discussing issues on a regular basis, joining political clubs, and watching and reading the news.
With the easy access to the internet, there is no reason why we could not obtain the correct information to help us make the decision.
There are many avenues for people to get politically involved and make their voices heard through collective efforts.
The emergence of citizen journalists itself has created the impact and proof, that the younger generation is taking steps to shape the destiny of the country.
The stark truth that many of our politicians are the practitioners of gutter politics has compelled the concerned citizens to do their part by voicing the wrong the government has done.
But for politicians to succeed, it is often required of them to do things that may seem dishonorable, malicious, or merciless. Such is the political practice that fits the third-world nations where illiteracy rate is high, and allowing politicians to commit unethical acts to be successful, powerful or even untouchable!
Malaysia as a developing nation does not require such brand of politicians to dictate the citizens what is best for them while the government backyard is much to be desired.
Having a multi-racial populace, politicians must look beyond colours and creeds. The language utters with forked-tongue and to divert the truth from the people is what gutter politics is about.
The people in this contemporary have enough of such thrash! Only intelligent politicians will achieve greatness if they can be loved for their fairness and feared for their impartial judgment. It is true to say that the ultimate unsheathing the sword of Damocles may put fear into many, however, not all can be intimidated.
The people are the power that can make the change in our politicians because they are the ones who vote the politicians into office to look after their welfares.
If you are still an unregistered voter, you are depriving yourself the voice to speak out. And that is the "voice" you have chosen to silent yourself forever.
Please go to the nearest post office with your identity card and get yourself registered – TODAY. It is easy and fast.

Hi Sunny Lim,
ReplyDeleteI read this and I feel it is not perfect yet. By reading it, the person might not be totally convinced of why he should take note of the unfolding events in the political scenario.
It's because I only found 2 reasons-
"it is the only way to know what the government is planning to do will directly affect us." &
"The government needs to be kept in check"
And the rest are methods of becoming politically aware, what the politicians do, and why should we vote.
However, let me suggests some points:
1)Politics is related to everything-economics,social,and security of the nation.
2)By knowing politics, the person will get to know the country's new policies, laws and regulations, and where the country is heading.
3)For students, their IQ and general knowledge will surely increase.(It happens to me too)
Well, this is what i thought.
Thank you.
FWB
FWB,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughts. Your suggestion to point 1 is indeed the fact. I hope you are a registed voter by now.
I always try to engage people I meet in politics, anywhere and everywhere especially the current events. I also tell them not to read our BN mouthpieces MSM where one get the untruths tapi shiok sendiri saja crap.
