Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's Birthday - 19 June 2009
The intrusion of an American citizen into her residence compound in May 2009, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was taken into custody by the State Peace and Development Council. She, not her guards was accused of violating the terms of her house arrest, a sentence she had begun serving approximately six years ago.
The recent trial of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi appears to be politically motivated and is a way for the SPDC to continue her custody from Insein prison.
Despite International pressure, the military junta remains stubborn and arrogant. The International pressure does not have any impact on Aung San Suu Kyi’s plight.
Recently, the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon and his special Envoy to Burma, Ibrahim Gambari have received petition from over 670,000 people around the world urging them to pressure the military junta to release all the political prisoners.
The signatures were collected in 220 countries. The Burmese people are hoping for more support and pressure from the International Community to bring the change in Burma.
The Burmese political refugees in Malaysia celebrated her 64th. birthday in the Chinese Assembly Hall on the 19th.June 2009.
