From The Mouth of ISA Detainees

Pudu Prison - Ashes To Ashes

The annihilation of a hundred and fifteen-year old Pudu Prison had finally been” laid to rest” in the hands of greed.

When Pudu Prison was built, it was in the backwater of Pudu where people dreaded to go near. Development had cheated its birthright and today it is blamed as an eye-sore to stand in the heart of the city.

The sadness is not only for the building but also the way its history has been yanked from its roots.

We hear about endangered species and today we are seeing endangered heritage disappearing steadily. Will Pudu Prison be the threshold for more historical sites and buildings to suffer the same fate? If we allow them to happen, they will!

A stone’s throw from Pudu Prison stands Stadium Merdeka. Will its day be numbered so to Stadium Negara? The thought of it sends jitters down my spine.
