INVITATION TO SUARAM PRESS CONFERENCE: LAUNCHING OF ‘OPS SCORPENE’
SUARAM will be holding a press conference to launch our fundraiser campaign, “Ops Scorpene”. The campaign is aimed to raise funds in order to pursue the ongoing litigation stages in the French Courts with regards to the judicial investigation into the French company DCNS whom allegedly paid an amount in commissions to Perimekar, for the purchase of the Scorpene submarines.
In December 2009, SUARAM linked up with leading human rights lawyers in France, to file a complaint with the French judicial system, hoping that preliminary investigation would be initiated. SUARAM has been monitoring the scandal building not just surrounding the mysterious and horrendous death of Altantuya Shariibu, but her role and involvement in the procurement of arms for the Malaysian government, leading to her gruesome murder.
In April 2010, the lawyers representing SUARAM, informed us that the courts had accepted the request to investigate the claim of corruption for a payment amounting to Euro 114 million made as commissions from DCNS to Perimekar, a company formed solely for the purpose of receiving said commissions.
Date : 30th May 2011
Time : 11.00 a.m.
Venue : Auditorium, KL & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, Jalan Maharajalela, KL.

The Pastor's Ass
The Pastor entered his donkey in a race and it won.
The Pastor was so pleased with the donkey that he entered it in another race and it won again.
The local paper read:
Pastor's ASS OUT FRONT.
The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the Pastor not to enter the donkey in another race.
The next day the local paper headline read:
BISHOP SCRATCHES Pastor's ASS.
This was too much for the Bishop so he ordered the Pastor to get rid of the donkey.
The Pastor decided to give it to a Nun in a nearby convent.
The local paper, hearing of the news, posted the following headline the next day:
NUN HAS BEST ASS IN TOWN.
The Bishop fainted.
He informed the Nun that she would have to get rid of the donkey so she sold it to a farmer for $10.
The next day the paper read:
NUN SELLS HER ASS FOR $10.
This was too much for the Bishop so he ordered the Nun to buy back the donkey and lead it to the plains where it could run wild.
The next day the headlines read:
NUN ANNOUNCES HER ASS IS WILD AND FREE.
The Bishop was buried the next day.

Walk With Us To Stop Lynas
We are organizing a HUGE Stop Lynas! Solidarity Walk on the 20th of May 2011 (Friday, 2pm) from KLCC to the Australian High Commission.
This is a peaceful walk that will end with the handing of a people's memorandum to the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia.
We come together united as citizens of Malaysia, regardless of race, religion and social standing, to protest against the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (LAMP) -The world's largest rare earth plant in Gebeng, Kuantan. This project endangers the lives of the Rakyat and it violates our rights as Malaysian citizens to determine the destiny of our country. I urge everyone who wants to see a better future for our children and our country join us in this 'once in a lifetime' event!
Bus trips will be arranged on the 20th of May from Kuantan to KL and returning that very same day (to Kuantan). For more information about the Solidarity Walk & bus arrangements,

SUARAM will be organizing a launch event on our campaign "142 ARE STATE PARTIES. IT IS TIME FOR MALAYSIA!"
A ‘state party’ to the convention and protocol is a country that has ratified or acceded to that particular treaties (state or organization), and is therefore legally bound by the provisions in the instrument
The launching event will be held:
Date : 8 May 2011 (Sunday)
Place : Annexe Gallery (Central Market, Kuala Lumpur)
Time : 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm
Objectives of the campaign are:
To remind the 60th Anniversary of the 1951 convention and to urge government to accede the both 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol
To urge government to establish domestic act relating to the rights of refugees and to protect and promote the rights of refugees, in particular, child and woman refugees, under the both conventions namely the Convention on the Rights of Children (CRC) and Convention on the Elimination and Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)
To broaden awareness on the life and challenges of refugees living in Malaysia
