  1. I'm interested to know your stand about the latest announcement to abolish Science and Mathematics in English. Do you think the policy change would jeopardize the standard of English among our students? As English is the major teaching medium in most of the colleges and universities, it's inevitable that the command of English language is utmost important to our student's future and competitiveness. Most of the books, the source of knowledge are also written in English and this proves its importance is widespread. Speaking in the point of view where I had gone through learning S&M in Malay, I dare to say that the experience of reverting to English for college and universities studies was indeed challenging especially when you do not come from a English speaking family like myself. The language used in Science and Maths is not ordinary English but Technical English Language. It was such a daunting experience when instead of gaining and expanding your knowledge in college, you were still grasping the basic technical terms in English, which you would have learnt in school if they were taught in English. This impaired our ability to learn efficiently. I was lucky because I had you as my English lecturer, but just imagine the other thousands of students who didn't have the luxury. How could they cope up and excel in their studies? The excuse of reverting S&M back to Malay to strengthen the standard of the language and to instill unity and patriotism among out students is a complete nonsense owing to the fact that we have the Malay language as a taught subject itself and also other subjects in Malay language. Our students are doomed to fail....!

  2. First of all, I would like to thank you for initiating the engagement on this "talk of the town" topic - should the government abolish teaching Mathematics and Science in English.

Jason, I'll share with you my thought when I return to K.Lumpur on Wednesday. Presently, I am in Kelantan to familiarise myself with the locals especially their way of life and the Manek Urai by-election as well.

    Thank you Jason.
